Colleague Spotlight: Owen Sumner

In our new Colleague Spotlight series, we’re celebrating all our talented and hardworking colleagues at Tibbetts Group. This week, we spoke with BFC Product Manager Owen Sumner about his career and personal interests – from joining Tibbetts Group within Supply Chain Administration to following local football team Banbury United.

What is your role at Tibbetts Group?

“My day-to-day role involves plenty of data management. This covers new part creation, keeping pricing up-to-date and maintaining the requirements for any certification. I ensure that all departments can efficiently use the data within our internal systems.”

How long have you worked at Tibbetts Group?

“I’ve worked at Tibbetts Group for just shy of three years. I was in Supply Chain Administration for about two and a half years, and I was promoted to Product Management in April 2024.”

What is your favourite aspect of your role?

“Since I’ve moved into Product Management, it’s definitely been the added responsibility. I feel like I can put my ideas forward and make a difference to help every department.”

Have you worked in this area throughout your career?

“I did Business and Management at university, as I was always interested in Business at school and it felt like the natural choice.

“I joined Tibbetts Group after university and have enjoyed working from both our Banbury and Stokenchurch offices.

“When the Product Management position became available, it was a natural progression because I had already been given exposure to the new part creation element of the role.”

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

“I try and stay active when I’m not at work. I enjoy golf and football, whether that’s watching or playing.

“I go to all the Banbury United home games and some away games. There’s lots of local fixtures this year, so I’ll hopefully attend most of the matches this season.”

What’s your favourite holiday destination?

“I wouldn’t say that there’s one destination; I don’t like doing the same holiday twice.

“I like visiting new countries – I think that I’ve done six or seven new countries in the last couple of years, whether that be with my mates or with my girlfriend going to European cities.

“In particular, I would say that Monaco is my favourite after looking at all the expensive cars!”

What is your favourite film or television genre?

“I’m not actually a big film and TV guy. I very rarely sit down to watch a film for two or three hours at a time. If I did, it would probably be comedy or horror – so two opposites!”

What’s something that you’ve always wanted to try or learn?

“I’ve always been impressed by people who can speak multiple languages. My girlfriend is Polish, so I’ve picked up bits of the language. Learning more Polish would be something to try.”
